George Town Boxing Gym Delivers a Night to Remember

Boxing Tasmania is proud to congratulate George Town Boxing Gym on hosting an outstanding tournament at the Graeme Fairless Centre on Saturday 30 May 2026.Twenty-three bouts. A packed venue. And a night that showed exactly what this sport can deliver when a community gets behind it.

The card featured 19 competitive fights and 4 exhibition bouts, with teams travelling from Victoria, New South Wales and the ACT to take part. That kind of interstate pull does not happen by accident. It reflects the reputation George Town Boxing has been building, and the work that goes into putting on an event of this scale.

Tasmanian clubs were well represented throughout the night, with Georgetown Boxing Club, Team Woods Boxing Club,Kingston Boxing Club, Tigers Den Boxing Club, O'Callaghan Boxing Club and Dynamite Boxing all stepping up across a range of weight divisions.

The night also carried a moment that went beyond the results. Allison Ritchie, Deputy Mayor of Clarence, presented an Outstanding Service Award on behalf of the Tasmanian Boxing Association to Jane Applebee, who served as timekeeper on the night and has given years of dedication to the Boxing Tasmania as a committee member. It was a well-deserved recognition of someone who shows up, does the work, and makes sure everyone else can too.

To the officials, volunteers, and supporters who made the night run, thank you. And to all the boxers and coaches who stepped up, whether travelling from interstate or competing on home turf, you are a credit to the sport.
